Gene Lantrip

Gene and Cindy Lantrip have been building homes in the Big Country since 1983. Their roots run deep in the Abilene area. Gene graduated from Cooper High School in 1974 and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1979. He was a commissioned officer in the 490th Civil Affairs for eight years, and they owned the Lantrip's convenience store chain from 1982 to 2005. Gene served on the Jim Ned School Board for 9 years, the Taylor Country Lions Club, and is currently a member of the National Eagle Scout Association. Cindy grew up in Buffalo Gap, and graduated from Jim Ned High School in 1976. She then attended McMurry University and married Gene in 1977. Both Gene and Cindy are currently members of Tuscola First Baptist Church. They have three children, Katie, an English teacher in Richardson; Kenny, a computer programmer at Wolfepak Software; and Kristie, sales associate and design specialist to Lantrip's Custom Homes. All three children are married and Katie has given them their first grandchild who will celebrate his first birthday this May.

Gene and Cindy have built over 300 homes in Abilene and surrounding areas. Their philosophy is to build the best quality home, yet affordable for the home buyers. They are members of the Big Country Home Builders Association, Texas Association of Home Builders, The National Association of Home Builders, and the Abilene Better Business Bureau. Gene currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Big Country Home Builder Association and as First Vice President. Gene also serves as the Local Director of the National Association of Home Builders. In late December, Gene and Cindy Lantrip were named Builder of the Year for 2009.

They currently have over 50 lots available in the Pack Saddle, Indian Wells, Heritage Parks, and Cedar Hills Lake subdivision, or they will build on any lot the customer desires. From securing financing, developing the plans, helping to make all selections as stress free as possible, and finally handing the homeowner the keys to their new home, Lantrip's Custom Homes assists the homeowner throughout the whole construction process. They also abide by the TRCC's inspections even though they're no longer required. They do this to provide an extra peace of mind to those who purchase one of their homes. They have several different financing options available and work with all mortgage companies and real estate companies.
